Over the years, whether I was playing or not, I’ve felt a disconnect between what I do and why I do it. It got to the point where I didn’t even want to pick up the instrument I once loved to play every day.
I created The Bearded Guitarist in June of 2018 as a way to get back on my journey of creation and documentation. Years have passed, and the dream was almost forgotten, especially as others started similar channels and made progress. But we’re here now.
Reflecting on this journey, I realize how much I’ve learned and grown along the way. Each video, each note played, and each interaction with viewers has shaped not only my skills as a guitarist but also my understanding of community and creativity. While the path has had its ups and downs, the passion for music and the desire to share it with others have always been my guiding light. I’m excited to continue this adventure, reconnect with my audience, and explore new horizons in the world of music.
about me
Hey, I’m Simon. I’ve been playing guitar since 2011. I stopped playing professionally in November 2017 when loud stage volume blew out my left eardrum for the second time. I haven’t picked up the guitar ever since. This is me documenting my journey to get back to playing the instrument I’ve always loved.
Much of my early influences came from indie artists like Matthew Glass and Soulreel, as well as bands such as Skillet, Stryper, Petra, P.O.D., BBABH, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Impelliteri, and others.

Where are you from?
India – born and raised! The city of Bangalore is my base of operations.
Are you going to teach guitar?
My vocation has me teaching music theory and piano. I learnt music theory during the years 2006-2008 with piano as my main instrument. Much of what I learnt on the guitar from 2008-2011 was through a bunch of guitar tabs. There is a lot of content online that can already help. If I find a gap in the market, I’ll take it. Until then – only.documenting.
What can we expect on the website?
For the time being, this serves as a landing page only – more likely than not, you’re only here from Instagram. Things may change in the future depending on how the landscape evolves. But for now, we’re making music!
Why is this page not about the London-based @TheBeardedGuitarist?
Whenever I have an idea, the first thing I do is purchase the domain. We probably had the same idea though we are continents apart – me June and him August? Kinda strange that we almost share a name as well. Haha!
